Meta has made some new investments in its VR business, as they acquire the developers behind Resident Evil 4 and ReCore.
Most of the VR talk recently has been about Sony’s PlayStation VR2 and the peculiar amount of emphasis they’re putting on it, but the fact remains that it’s the Meta Quest 2 (née Oculus Quest 2) that is the most successful VR headset so far.
It’s still unclear when there might be a Meta Quest 3 – late 2023 seems to be the very earliest possibility – but Meta itself seems to be getting ready for something big, as they’ve just bought three talented VR studios: Camouflaj, Armature Studio, and Twisted Pixel.
Camouflaj was founded by Metal Gear Solid producer and Halo creative director Ryan Payton and was responsible for 2020’s Iron Man VR on PlayStation VR, which will now be coming to Meta Quest 2 on November 3.

The VR rights and those for ordinary video games appear to be treated separately, as EA recently announced its plans to make a single-player non-VR Iron Man game.
Armature was founded by a number of ex-Retro Studios staff but apart from Xbox exclusive ReCore have been largely stuck making ports of other games, until they found success with the VR version of Resident Evil 4 last year.
Twisted Pixel were a popular indie studio during the Xbox 360 era, with games like ‘Splosion Man and its sequel, before dire Xbox One launch game LocoCycle saw them pivot to VR.
That’s not the only Meta Quest announcement this week, as the company also revealed that Xbox Cloud Gaming is coming to the headset.
