The release of the Nintendo Switch in early 2017 took the world by storm as Nintendo's hybrid handheld and home console saw massive success following its highly-anticipated debut with major titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild buoying its launch. The popular console has already sold over 100 million units in the five years and recently passed the Wii to become Nintendo's best-selling home console worldwide. The Switch has been one of the most popular video games on the market since the portable/home console hybrid launch in March 2017 with the console previously amassing colossal sales streaks, sitting as the best-selling console for nearly three years from November 2018 until September 2021. The console has seen releases from nearly every one of Nintendo's major ongoing series with many games like Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey being praised as some of the best in their respective franchises. A new sales report from market research company The NPD Group confirms that the Switch's sales during April 2022 have seen the console officially surpass one of its main rivals in its early years in the PS4.
