A new Missions and Rewards system has been added in a Nintendo Switch Online update, allowing players to earn Platinum Points by completing tasks. The tasks involve games that use the Nintendo Switch Online service's content, including NES titles.
The Nintendo Switch Online service is the Switch's equivalent to PlayStation Plus or Xbox Gold, with players needing to subscribe in order to play games online. The key difference is that Nintendo Switch Online doesn't offer contemporary titles. Instead, subscribers receive access to a library of NES and SNES titles, as well as a few exclusives to the service, like Tetris 99. Nintendo Switch Online also offers access to cloud saves, except in a few cases where it could be abused to gain an advantage in a game, such as by bypassing the automatic saves when trading in the Pokemon series. People who subscribe to the premium Expansion Pack receive N64 and Sega Genesis titles, as well as free access to DLC in games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
