The Nintendo Switch Online App didn’t exactly come with a lot of functionality when it first arrived back in 2017, and Nintendo has been pretty slow to update it with stuff that most gamers would consider essential. For example, the Switch Online App only just got the ability to see your friends’ online status this morning with the release of v2.0.0.
The largest update the Switch Online App has received so far, v2.0.0 revamps the app’s overall design in dozens of ways, but the biggest changes are to your social settings. For the first time, you can both see what your friends are up to and change your online status. You can also view your friend code from the app which will make sending friend requests a whole lot easier.

However, there are still many more one-star reviews on the Apple App store than five-star reviews, with users noting that these features probably should have been around since day one. Nintendo is still definitely learning when it comes to mobile apps and the social internet.
On the plus side, today’s app update came alongside a brand-new Switch Online console update that adds missions and new rewards. Complete Switch Online missions to receive Platinum Points which can then be exchanged for stuff like wallpapers, user icons, and sometimes even physical items.
Both the new Switch Online mobile app and console update are available now.
