In the console war between Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft, there have always been “winners and losers” in every generation, and that’s just how this “war” goes. However, over the years, there have been certain “standouts” that each side has had that the others can’t seem to keep up with in one form or another. For example, Sony systems always seem to have the best graphics, Microsoft always has the best “services” like Live and Game Pass to help out gamers, and Nintendo has the best software overall. That’s proven by the Nintendo Switch, which has had TONS of releases this year alone.
Don’t believe us? A gaming journalist wrote on Twitter the number of exclusive titles that came to the PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S systems in 2023, and as you can see, ladies and gentlemen, the numbers aren’t even close.
The PS5 only had five exclusive titles released this year, and one of them was for their PSVR2, not directly for their console. As for the Xbox Series X/S, while they were technically behind Nintendo by a few, they also had a few remasters and ports on their list. Plus, do we really want to count Redfall? That’s what we thought.
As for Nintendo, while they also had some remasters and ports, they also had a full-on remake via their turn-based tactics title and a crap ton of new games that were released, including their possible Game of the Year contender/winner in Tears of the Kingdom.
So what does this prove? Well, it highlights how, despite all the things that Sony and Microsoft have bought over the last several years to try and give their consoles an edge software-wise, Nintendo is still on top.
