Wii Sports caused many an injury to bodies and televisions back in 2006, and Nintendo is warning parents in an attempt to avoid a similar situation with Switch Sports.
Nintendo Switch Sports went on sale today and offers a range of motion-controlled sports to play. This inevitably sees you swinging a Joy-Con around vigorously, which can be a serious hazard to anyone standing or sitting nearby. Bruises, black eyes, and smashed TVs are all signs you're really enjoying the challenge, but Nintendo would like to avoid them if possible.
The Nintendo Support Twitter account for Japan tweeted the warning you see above. It roughly translates to say, "[For parents] For your safety, please accompany your child when playing "Nintendo Switch Sports". Please be careful not to hit the children playing with each other or hit the Joy-Con on the TV."
A couple of diagrams accompany the tweet showing how it's best to play as if you're surrounded by a dome of free space, as well as standing well back from the TV screen. Thankfully, Switch consoles ship with Joy-Con wrist straps in the box, which ensure your TV is safe as long as you take the time to slide them over your wrists. Lost yours? Replacements are cheap and easy to find.
Nintendo Switch Sports is a fun, casual spin on popular sports and the cost of playing should be limited to the $50 the game costs, assuming you heed Nintendo's warning.
