Mario Strikers: Battle League is an upcoming Mario spinoff title. It is the third Super Mario Strikers game, and the first for the Nintendo Switch. Where Super Mario Strikers, and Mario Strikers Charged were released within a couple of years of each other, it has been a 15-year wait for Mario Strikers: Battle League, leading to a lot of hype generated around the game. Now, Nintendo has unveiled some of the core gameplay elements players will see in the newest soccer-inspired spinoff.
The latest gameplay trailer for Mario Strikers: Battle League runs just short of five minutes, but Nintendo manages to squeeze in a lot of detail for a relatively short video. First, there is some general gameplay showing off the new look for Battle League. Following that, the video gets right into one of the new mechanics, which allows players to use tackles in order to boost their teammates forward. Instead of slamming a competitor into the ground, a tackle in the new Mario Strikers can send a friendly character right towards the goal, setting up some quick and powerful shots.

Speaking of which, the new gameplay trailer also shows off the Hyper Strikes. Unlike the Mega Strikes of Mario Strikers Charged, Hyper Strikes in Mario Strikers: Battle League don't come from a player holding down the strike button. Instead, they appear on the pitch as power-ups, free for any player to pick up and use for a devastating attack. Once the golden orb drops, it is a free-for-all to see which team picks it up. Rather than just being available for team Captains as well, any character in Mario Strikers: Battle League can send off a Hyper Strike.
