A recent leak suggests that even more Nintendo-based LEGO sets are going to be released in 2022, with eight reportedly due this summer and one later in the year. The latest partnership between Nintendo and LEGO began back in 2020 with the reveal of LEGO Super Mario, a customizable game set that combines traditional LEGO with a high-tech Mario minifigure that plays sounds from the games and keeps track of the player's score as they move the lovable plumber through LEGO versions of classic Mario locations like Bowser’s Castle. Aside from the LEGO Super Mario sets, Nintendo and LEGO have also produced sets based on Mario’s iconic Question Block and even the original NES console itself. At the time that LEGO Super Mario was first coming out, LEGO Creative Play Lab Design Manager Jonathan Bennink expressed a desire to branch out into other Nintendo properties like The Legend Of Zelda and Donkey Kong, and fans have also been pitching set ideas through LEGO Ideas based on Kirby's Dream Land, Wii Sports Resort, Zelda, Nook's Cranny from the Animal Crossing series, and more.
