The first information on Amazon’s upcoming Tomb Raider and The Lord of the Rings games is “not too far away”.
In an interview with Variety, Amazon Games vice president Christoph Hartmann was asked when the company would be sharing more information on its previously announced Tomb Raider and The Lord of the Rings games.
Harmann, who was a co-founder and former president of 2K Games, replied that while news wasn’t imminent, it wouldn’t be too far off, but the company’s priority was to not rush things.
“It’s not going to be tomorrow, but it’s not too far away,” Harmann explained. “As I said, we’re getting into a much more regular cadence of shipping games. That’s all I’m allowed to tell you right now.
“It’s all about quality. You don’t want to just be rushed out. That’s doesn’t work. It has to be triple-A quality, because the bar is so high.”
It was announced back in December 2022 thatAmazon would be publishing the next Tomb Raider game, being developed by Crystal Dynamics.
Crystal Dynamics was one of numerous studios hit with layoffs last year, following a “restructuring program” which its owner Embracer Group said would lead to some studios being closed and some projects being cancelled.
At the time, Crystal Dynamics said its current projects wouldn’t be impacted by the events at Embracer.
“We want to reassure fans that there will be no impact to our continuing efforts with our partners at The Initiative on Perfect Dark, or our next Tomb Raider title being developed in collaboration with Amazon Games,”it said.
Last month, it was re-confirmed that Amazon’s Prime Video division had placed a series order for a Tomb Raider adaptation from Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
The British actress, screenwriter and producer, who won Emmy, Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for her work on Fleabag, will serve as writer and executive producer on the TV show.
