This is especially important when one of the new day one Xbox Game Pass games is a critical hit, because then it significantly boosts the value of the service for its subscribers.
So is the case with one of the brand-new day one Xbox Game Pass games that was just added to the service a few days ago. Sam Barlow's Immortality joined the Xbox Game Pass lineup on August 30, and it has rave reviews from critics. In fact, Immortality's review scores are high enough that it is one of the highest-rated overall new video game releases of the year, behind only FromSoftware's open world action-RPG epic Elden Ring. At the time of this writing, Immortality has a 92 overall rating on OpenCritic, and 94 and 90 respectively for the Xbox Series X and PC versions on Metacritic.
Xbox Game Pass Officially Reveals Friends and Family Plan
Expectations have been high for Immortality's reviews well before the embargo lifted for most outlets. Print magazine Edge, one of the industry's oldest gaming magazines that is still around today, awarded Immortality a perfect 10/10 score weeks before anyone else was able to chime in. To put that into perspective, Edge has only given 23 other games such high marks in its decades-long history, so it certainly gives the game more credibility.
