TV brightness is measured in nits, or candela per square meter (cd/m^2). Most high dynamic range (HDR) content is mastered for 1,000 nits, but the vast majority of TVs, especially cheaper ones, don't get that bright. Even the brightest TVs we've tested have only come close to 2,000 nits. Samsung, however, just announced a TV it claims can get over twice as bright.
At CEDIA 2022, Samsung revealed the QN100B Neo QLED TV. The 98-inch 4K television displays 5,000 nits of peak brightness, according to the company, making it by far the brightest consumer TV released yet. Commercial displays and digital signage are designed to get significantly brighter than TVs, but for the home this would be a first.
The QN100B "builds off of" the Editors' Choice QN90B, a TV that impressed us with its mini-LED backlight system that delivered visually perfect blacks with no noticeable light bloom, something we've not seen outside of OLED TVs before. Like the QN90B, which is available in sizes up to 85 inches, the QN100B uses mini-LEDs for its backlight.
Besides its peak brightness, the QN100B features a 120-watt 6.4.4 Dolby Atmos sound system. Samsung also says it's the company's thinnest QLED TV yet, at just under 20mm thick.
Don't expect the QN100B to be available at your local electronics store, though. CEDIA is a trade show that focuses on technology for home theater installers and custom systems, which are often more expensive than retail electronics and require professionals to set up.
Samsung's micro-LED The Wall TV also falls under this category; the LED-based display we've seen at CES and is on display at CEDIA has models designed for the home, but it still must be purchased directly or through a custom installer or specialized home
