A new teaser has dropped for the modern-day revival of the DeLorean sports car, and it offers some hints on the vehicle’s redesign.
Texas-based DeLorean Motor Company today released an image that shows the rear side of the upcoming car. It’s a pretty limited view, but the picture does suggest we can expect some noticeable design changes.
The differences become stark when the image is compared to the original DeLorean, which is most famous for being the time machine in the Back to the Future film franchise.
The 21st century remake seems to be curvier and more aerodynamic; the old-school DeLorean has an angular frame and retro box-shaped lights. Whether the new version adopts a stainless steel body remains unclear. But at the very least, it does contain some silver.
The DeLorean Motor Company is planning a launch event for the electric-powered vehicle on Aug. 18 at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance auto show in California. However, the company notes the car on display will be a “concept vehicle,” so it may not necessarily be the production model.
“Along with the reveal, DeLorean will also announce the official name of the vehicle,” it added.
In January, the automaker released another teaser for the car during the Super Bowl pregame. The video revealed the vehicle will retain its signature gull-wing doors, but the rest of the vehicle was shrouded in darkness.
The original DeLorean Motor Company, which was based in Ireland, went bankrupt in the 1980s after only producing around 9,000 cars. A separate firm later bought the trademarks and intellectual property and formed a new DeLorean Motor Company.
