When Tales from the Borderlands was released, it took the FPS franchise down a different path, giving players the chance to immerse themselves in a story-based game where they could choose their own adventure. A sequel has been in the works, with a small batch of details for the newTales from the Borderlands recently coming to light.
In the same style as the first Tales From the Borderlands there will be opportunities for players to pick what happens in-game. The setting will take place on Pandora, the original planet where the games all take place, though the provided details regarding the playable characters introduce a new cast. Instead of Rhys or Fiona, players will be able to choose from a scientist named Anu and Fran, who owns a frozen yoghurt shop. The third character might be Anu's brother Octavio, but nothing has been set in stone.
Tales from the Borderlands Sequel Announced
Along with a new crew comes a game classification of M18 for gore and strong violence, implied by the example encounters listed, including shooting, maiming, and attempted reattachment of a head to a corpse. Choices made by the player will affect the character being controlled at that point and could potentially be fatal, forcing the player to respawn at the previous checkpoint to try again. Having the M rating will be necessary given the violent nature of the game, with Tiny Tina's Wonderlands being the only T-rated game in the series.
There are other new aspects to the sequel that will set it apart from the first Tales from the Borderlands as well.
