Disney+ released a new trailer for their Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers movie. Not necessarily a reboot, but more of a Hollywood story about what happened to Chip and Dale after the series ended. The hybrid live-action/CG animated action-comedy catches up with the former Disney Afternoon TV stars in modern-day Los Angeles, teaming up once again to solve a case.
The new trailer focuses on Chip and Dale's lives with Chip living in the limelight of the convention circuit being a former television star, and Chip eventually becoming an insurance salesman...her salesmunk? When toon stars, including the likes of Flounder from The Little Mermaid, are being kidnapped, the Rescue Rangers are reformed to figure out the who and why. The trailer also has dozens of notable cameos like Lumiere, the Country Bears, and even a grown-up Peter Pan.
The original Rescue Rangers show ran for three seasons and a total of 65 episodes in the early '90s as part of the iconic programming block known as Disney Afternoon. The same block included Tale Spin, an adventure series using Jungle Book characters, Darkwing Duck, and Duck Tales, which was rebooted in 2017.
The film stars John Mulaney as Chip, Andy Samberg as Dale, with KiKi Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk) as their partner on the case. Also joining the cast are Will Arnett, Eric Bana, Flula Borg, Keegan-Michael Key, Tress MacNeille, Tim Robinson, and Seth Rogen, who reprises his role as Pumba from the CG-animated Lion King movie.
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers premieres May 20, 2022, exclusively on Disney+.
