Warning! Spoilers ahead for Alien Annual #1
Fans usually think of the infamous xenomorphs of the Alien franchise as ruthless, animalistic killers, but as it turns out, they are smarter and hunt with more intelligent tactics than was first believed.
In recent Alien comics, Weyland-Yutani, the corporation responsible for many of the terrible events in Alien canon, control a series of xenomorphs. They call xenomorphs «the organism» and dispatch them to handle company business, usually in situations they want to keep quiet or cover up. And when protesters are making waves for the company, they decide to send a fire team along with a xenomorph to take the protesters out. Unfortunately, a synthetic embedded with the team allows the xenomorph to escape prematurely, and it begins hunting the fire team.

In Alien Annual #1 by Philip Kennedy Johnson and Salvador Larocca, the fire team is led by Gabriel Cruz, who has extensive experience with xenomorphs. With the alien loose on their ship, he ordered his team to stay together at all times and never split up. The synthetic, who is chronicling the xenomorph's activity, notes that it has refrained from attacking the group and theorizes this is because of Cruz's instructions to keep everyone together. It was in hiding for days, waiting for just the right opportunity to make its first move.
This shows an incredible amount of restraint and patience on the part of the xenomorph. The alien is usually depicted as a savage animal and savage animals usually have very limited intelligence.
