Netflix has shown the first teaser trailer for its anime series set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be 10 episodes long and will be a standalone story set in the game’s Night City region.
Animation is being handled by Tokyo-based Studio Trigger, and the show is directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (Kill la Kill).
The teaser trailer can be seen below:
Netflix describes the show as “a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in Night City, a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future”.
“Having everything to lose, he stays alive by becoming an edgerunner – a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk,” it adds.
The series is produced by CD Projekt Red with Rafał Jaki serving as executive producer. Jaki has already stated that he will be leaving CD Projekt Red at the end of the month.
The show’s original score will be composed by Akira Yamaoka, who’s best known for the Silent Hill series.
The Edgerunners teaser was shown as part of Netflix’s ongoing ‘Geeked Week’ event, during which it has also shown the first trailer for its upcoming live-action Resident Evil series.
The Resident Evil trailer has divided opinion, with its YouTube version receiving large numbers of both likes and dislikes (albeit more of the latter).
Geeked Week ends on Friday with a special presentation dedicated to video games, with new information promised on The Cuphead Show, Sonic Prime, Dota: Dragon’s Blood and Tekken Bloodline.
The broadcaster will also be revealing more than 10 Netflix games, which will presumably be mobile titles.
