The Bearded Ladies, the developer behind the 2018 tactical RPG Mutant Year Zero, has released a new gameplay video for Miasma Chronicles, its latest stab at the genre. Clocking in at just under 17 minutes, this video shows off the game in its pre-alpha stages.
Not only does the video include a few in-game cinematics, but it also provides viewers with an extended look at the title’s exploration and turn-based combat mechanics. If you knew little about Miasma Chronicles beforehand, this gameplay video should do more than enough to get you up to speed.
In this video, you see protagonist Elvis and his robot pal Diggs roaming around a ruined, post-apocalyptic urban environment. As they explore, they come across plenty of loot, for which Diggs has a clear enthusiasm. Soon enough, though, in the middle of their trek home, they run into some trouble.
Mutant frogs wielding bows and arrows have brutally killed a family of civilians, and unfortunately, the duo can’t just sneak past them. This kicks off the turn-based combat portion of the video, which sees the protagonists and antagonists trying to find advantageous positions to shoot at each other.
According to the Bearded Ladies’ official website, Miasma Chronicles takes place in an America ravaged by a mysterious force. Using a special glove, Elvis has the ability to control this force, the titular Miasma. Both Elvis and Diggs have plenty of questions about the Miasma and other aspects of their world and personal lives. So, the protagonists embark on a quest to learn everything they need to know.
If the pre-alpha gameplay footage of Miasma Chronicles interested you in any way, you can look forward to its eventual launch sometime in 2023. It will be available to buy on both Steam
