The decade-old first-person shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has randomly become one of Twitch's most-watched games. Publisher Activision is known for churning out a new installment in the Call of Duty franchise every year since 2003, and rumors claimed that 2023 would be the first year Call of Duty would not release a new game in the popular franchise. However, an official statement from a spokesperson for Activision has disputed these rumors, ultimately promising new entries for both this year and next year. Many Call of Duty fans had hoped that one of the future entries would possibly be a new version of Modern Warfare 3.
Fans developed hopes for a new Modern Warfare 3 when Activision remastered the other two Modern Warfare games in the trilogy. In fact, the sequel seemed to hint at a remaster of Modern Warfare 3, with allusions that set up certain things in the third entry and even a reference to a remastered collection in a bonus level. Hopes for a remastered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 were ultimately dashed when Activision denied the rumors in an official statement, stating that a remaster did not exist in any form, but some fans are still holding out hope.
