Model Y Vs. Model S: Which Tesla Travels Farther On A Single Charge?
The Tesla Model Y might be able to accommodate a family more comfortably than a Model S, but which EV is the better option in terms of range? Despite both coming with a dual-motor AWD set-up, their discrepancies in estimated maximum range are quite substantial. Tesla's Model Y and Model S each come with their own key features that cater to different types of users.
One of the most apparent distinctions is size, with the Model Y being a noticeably taller cross-over SUV, while the Model S is a sportier, more compact sedan. While the Model Y offers more room for luggage and comfortable seating, the Model S makes up for that by being capable of going 20 mph faster. Of course, range can also be a vital factor in deciding which EV to get, especially since recharging from empty to full takes a lot longer than refueling at a gas station, and can take from 30 minutes to as long as 20 hours depending on the charging method.

When it comes to the Model Y and Model S, the difference in range is quite clear. According to Tesla, the Model Y can go for an estimated 330 miles on a single charge. In contrast, Tesla claims the Model S can go even farther on a single charge, with an estimated range of up to 405 miles. Even when compared to the shorter-ranged Model S Plaid, the Model Y Long Range variant still comes short by 66 miles. Opting for the Performance Model Y increases its speed, but drops the estimated mileage down to just 303 miles. However, topping up at a Tesla Supercharger station for a short 15-minute recharge allows the Model Y run for another 162 miles, while charging the Model S for the same time results in additional 38 miles.
