Supernatural star Misha Collins opens up about the different factions within the fandom. Collins played the angel Castiel on the long-running drama series which, over the course of its 15-year run, maintained one of the most loyal fan communities of any television show. The fandom of Supernatural was so devoted that, on several occasions, the show would include either subtle or direct and very meta references to the viewership watching at home.
Supernatural audiences took to discussing the show’s different themes and storylines with fervor, whether it was Castiel’s relationship with Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) or the way Dean frequently butted heads with younger brother Sam (Jared Padalecki). Fans also grew invested in the relationship between the actors off-camera, enjoying their interactions at conventions and the elaborate stories of how the trio would often find different and escalating ways to prank each other. But, in a new interview, Collins addressed the more negative aspects of all that adoration.

Speaking on the Inside of You podcast, Collins talked to host Michael Rosenbaum about some of those pranks and about some of his experiences when he first joined Supernatural. The conversation eventually turned to the relationship Collins had with Ackles and Padalecki. Collins stressed that the three all love each other, explaining that the occasional focus on the friction between the trio has to do with the different factions within the Supernatural fandom.
