Mojang has just announced a free update for last year's Minecraft Minions DLC that will introduce some new content. The update coincides with the release of Illumination's latest animated film,Minions: The Rise of Gru, with new content based on the Vicious Six antagonist characters depicted in the movie.
Minecraft has come an extremely long way since the early playable development builds in 2009, having become an absolute juggernaut in the gaming industry and updated with countless new features. Entire new dimensions have been added in the form of The Nether and The End, new biomes, mobs, and blocks have made it into the game, and numerous overhauls to the terrain generation system have all shaped Minecraft into a surprisingly deep and expansive game despite its simplistic blocky visuals. New content is continually in the works, ensuring that Minecraft's enormous fanbase always has something to look forward to.

The Minions DLC for Minecraft is based on the hugely popular Despicable Me animated film series, with players taking on the role of the supervillain Gru in Minecraft form. Players use a variety of gadgets and build a growing force of minions that can be used to perform various tasks. Gru can fill up his villain-o-meter by sneaking and racing and participating in other activities leading up to the final confrontation with the Vicious Six. The update adds a new version of this confrontation based on their appearance in Minions: The Rise of Gru, along with a free in-game yellow minion hoodie for the player's dressing room.
