Minecraft presents gamers around the world with a massive, wide-open sandbox to play in, but more importantly, it also offers gamers the ability to build whatever they want in that sandbox. Many players have constructed tributes to and recreations of characters and locations from their favorite media properties. Now, one Minecraft player has recreated part of the towering fantasy city of Minas Tirith from The Lord of the Rings franchise.
Minas Tirith was the capital city of Gondor, renamed from Minas Anor after the fortress Minas Ithil was conquered by the forces of Mordor. Its original name means «Tower of the Sun,» while Minas Tirith means «Tower of the Guard.» The name change may have been intended to represent Gondor's determination to stand against the darkness, even after the fall of Minas Ithil.
Minecraft Player Recreates Bag End From Lord of the Rings
Redditor eagoid shared a screenshot of their in-progress recreation of Minas Tirith entirely inside Minecraft. This isn't the first time The Lord of the Rings fans have tried recreating the franchise's iconic locations in Minecraft, but it may be one of the most beautiful. In the screenshot, eagoid shows off one building in particular — the grand dome found on the first level of Minas Tirith. The result is simply spectacular.
The screenshot shows a border of stone blocks forming a circular hole through which the camera is peering. Inside the hole is a gorgeous view of the side of Minas Tirith, complete with ivy clinging to the stone and conifer trees sprouting up along the walls.
