The company is offering the new outsourcing business through what’s called Microsoft Security Experts. Redmond announced the program on Monday, citing the ongoing shortage in cybersecurity personnel.
“It’s getting harder every day for organizations to build and maintain a full security team, let alone one with the ever-expanding skillset required to meet the range of today’s security demands,” said Microsoft Corporate Vice President Vasu Jakkal.
“Now, our world-class security expertise is your security expertise,” she added.
The new business also means Microsoft is going to compete against other established cybersecurity firms such as SecureWorks, IBM’s Managed Security Services, and Mandiant, which Google is in process of acquiring to bolster its own cloud security offerings.
Microsoft Security Experts will range across three different services. The first focuses on helping businesses hunt for threats targeting their networks by using data from Microsoft Defender, Office 365 and other applications.
“Our experts will investigate anything they find and then hand off the contextual alert information and remediation instructions so you can quickly respond,” Jakkal said. This tier will be available to customers sometime this summer.
The second offering is for businesses that need to bolster their existing security operations center with more staff. The third, called Microsoft Security Services for Enterprise, is designed to provide comprehensive security protection across all the platforms a company is using. Microsoft is making this tier available today.
