Meta is hard at work making the metaverse--hence the name change the company underwent last year. It wasn’t just about distancing itself from scandals that accused Facebook of ruining our current reality; it’s more about replacing our reality with a virtual one.

The report comes from The Information (via Engadget) that calls Project Cambria a “Chromebook for the face.” That’s because Cambria has similar hardware specs to a Chromebook laptop. It’ll use Meta’s own operating system, which is based on Android and will be compatible with various web-based tools, services, and Quest apps.
Cambria will primarily be marketed as a work device rather than a gaming device, so each lens is said to have “high-resolution.” Whether this means 4K or 8K wasn’t discussed, but it would have to be fairly high in order for users to clearly read text and emails. Each headset will also have full-color passthrough thanks to a set of cameras placed on the outside of the headset, allowing users to see their surroundings to avoid bumping into things. It’ll also allow for mixed and augmented-reality experiences.
One mark against Cambria from a business perspective is the possibility that it won’t be able to run native desktop apps that are widely used in businesses. It’ll also be heavier than the Quest 2 due to its larger battery, which might make sustained use
