Megapixel Wars ahead! Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra to get the highest resolution camera sensor
If you assumed the Megapixel Wars was over, think again. After settling with the 108MP camera sensors for some years, big brands are now ready to go 200MP for their next-gen phones. Motorola and Xiaomi may be among the first ones to launch phones with this sensor. However, Samsung will develop a special 200MP image sensor that it could use on its ultra flagship for next year. No specific details on this yet but rumours suggest that the next Galaxy S23 Ultra will come with a 200MP image sensor.
Renowned tipster Ice Universe suggests that Samsung is developing a new 200MP image sensor for its next-gen Galaxy S23 Ultra flagship. Samsung will call it the ISOCELL HM2 sensor and it could be the best one yet from Samsung. Note that Samsung already sells an ISOCELL HM1 and ISOCELL HM3 sensor, both of which are rated at 200MP.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra so far is shaping up to have a mild camera upgrade over the current-gen model. Previous rumours have suggested that Samsung will continue to use the 10MP sensor for the periscope camera. Not that the 10MP periscope camera is bad on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but it could certainly use a high resolution sensor for improved photo quality.
Other than that, not much is known about the Galaxy S23 Ultra yet. Samsung has been doing good sales figures with the Galaxy S22 lineup this year, and its Galaxy S22 Ultra is among the top sellers, as suggested by data from Counterpoint Research. This is surprising given that the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the most expensive conventional phone Samsung sells at the moment.
