He might not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of innovators at Nintendo, but much of the company’s success was thanks to the work of Masayuki Uemura. The engineer helped Nintendo make the switch from a toy company to the video game giant we know and love today. He was the lead architect on both the NES and SNES projects, making him instrumental in bringing about the age of console gaming. Masayuki Uemura passed away on December 6 at the age of 78.
