Marvel Rivals will be released later this year, it’s been announced.
The game received a December 6, 2024 release date during the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase on Tuesday.
It was also confirmed that all heroes will be free at launch and beyond.
Announced for PC in March and consoles in May, Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play 6v6 team-based shooter which is played from a third-person perspective.
Players can choose from a selection of Marvel superheroes and super villains from the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men and more.
It’s being developed by a new internal team at NetEase Games, which said it’s “composed of global talent who previously worked on hit franchises such as Call of Duty and Battlefield”.
VGC spoke to Thaddeus Sasser, the game’s director, at Summer Game Fest. When asked about comparisons to Blizzard‘s Overwatch, he said he welcomed them.
“Overwatch really helped establish the genre, I think they have a great game. It’s an honour to be compared to a great game. For someone to say, this is like this, but it’s also different and I like it.”
