The developers behind Marvel Rivals, an upcoming free-to-play 6v6 hero shooter, have hinted that a console version of the game could be in the works despite it being listed as a PC-only game. The news comes just hours after the announcement trailer for Marvel Rivals was published online.
Before its official announcement, rumors concerning an Overwatch-style Marvel game were swirling around the internet. Many of the leaks have turned out to be true. Marvel Rivals is a third-person hero shooter that boasts 6v6 team-based combat. The newly announced hero shooter has drawn many comparisons to the biggest game in the genre, but the first look at Marvel Rivals shows several ways it stands out from Overwatch. While the upcoming title has fans excited, it is only currently slated for release on PC. However, there is reason for console gamers to be optimistic.
Currently, Marvel Rivals is slated as a PC-only title, but Pure Xbox reports that developer NetEase Games is «actively exploring potential releases on other platforms.» At this moment, there isn't a release date or even release window listed for Marvel Rivals, but the shooter is scheduled to receive a closed alpha in May.
It should also be noted that early Marvel Rivals rumors, which have mostly been accurate, claimed the shooter would also be coming to consoles and mobile devices. Of course, this is far from a confirmation that Marvel Rivals will indeed come to consoles. At this point, it is far more encouraging that the devs claim to be looking into other platforms.
