The Jack of Hearts just made a surprise return after more than a decade of being believed to be dead, as the long-lost Avenger reveals the truth behind his disappearance. In She-Hulk #2 by Marvel Comics, Jack of Hearts tells Jennifer Walters that the explosive moment causing his death happened, but he somehow woke up mysteriously alive and in the captivity of someone he wasn't sure was trying to help or hurt him.
Jack of Hearts has one of the most tragic histories among the Avengers, as the hero's powers turned out to be his demise. The hero was forced to wear his suit to contain his explosive abilities but eventually needed serious containment to stop himself from detonating. As a result, Iron Man kept him isolated for more than 14 hours a day. However, knowing losing control of his powers would put innocent lives at risk, Jack of Hearts detonated himself in space. That was the last time the Avengers saw the hero in his usual form, but now, he's returned and revealing he might not have died at all.

In She-Hulk #2 by Rainbow Rowell, Roge Antonio, Rico Renzi, VC's Joe Caramagna, and Jen Bartel, Jack of Hearts shows up at She-Hulk's door, as the hero wonders how he's still alive given his explosive death. Jack of Hearts explains he left the Avengers after realizing he was a danger to everyone and feeling the radiation building up inside him. As previously believed, Jack went into space and exploded. But, he tells She-Hulk he woke up alive in containment, as someone was draining him of his radiation.
