Marvel fans are quite vocal when it comes to their satisfaction (or otherwise) toward certain storylines in Marvel Comics. The readership often takes it as a grand slight whenever a character doesn't act in a consistent manner or is otherwise exhibiting out-of-the-ordinary characteristics. Whenever this happens, cries of «Skrull!» will inevitably reverberate around discussion areas — and while Marvel has revealed some characters to be Skrulls in the past, the company has used the latest issue of Spider-Woman to effective quash the more outlandish rumors and theories.
The Skrulls are an entire race of shapeshifting aliens and one of Marvel's many go-to races for a massive Earth-eradicating threat. Aside from their seemingly never-ending war with the Kree species, the Skrulls are well-known for their ability to shapeshift into any humanoid being in the Marvel Universe. They can even replicate voices and movement to a degree, and thus a Skrull invasion means even one's friend and/or family can be agents in disguise.

In Spider-Woman #19 by Karla Pacheco and Pere Perez, Jessica Drew engages in a massive fight with Veranke, the Skrull princess. Recently released from prison after the Kingpin outlawed superheroes in New York (and used supervillains to enforce his new laws), Veranke battles with Spider-Woman across New York, and uses her Skrull powers to change into certain foes such as Iron Man. When Spider-Man swings onto the scene, Spider-Woman immediately blasts him, sending Ben Reilly careening into the water. But it's the real Spider-Man, who indignantly responds «What the heck, Jess!!! That hurt!
