New details have come to light about the Mario movie, as actor Keegan-Michael Key--who voices Toad--has announced that his character will sing in the animated film. He confirmed this after Jack Black, who plays Bowser, announced that his character will sing, too, which has prompted some to wonder just how much of a musical the film will be. That remains to be seen.
In any event, Key told Variety that he «got to improvise a song» in the film, saying this experience was an «absolute blast.» The actor added: «That was just a stick of fun, that whole thing.»

As for Bowser's musical scenes, Black said during New York Comic-Con that fans can expect the big monster to belt out some tunes.
«Bowser is like a heavy metal rock star, a big strong and scary rock star,» Black, a singer-songwriter in his own right, said. «I did a little rockin'. I think you might be surprised to learn that Bowser has a musical side.»
Just how many musical elements will be featured in the Mario movie are unknown at this stage. In fact, basically nothing is known about the film's plot beyond Mario, voiced by Chris Pratt, apparently setting out on another grand adventure to save the day.
