Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit studio Velan has revealed a Hot Wheels ‘mixed reality’ racing game

Velan Studios and Mattel have announced Hot Wheels: Rift Rally, a new mixed reality racing game from the team behind Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit.Releasing on March 14 for PS4, PS5 and iOS devices, the game sees players controlling an RC car which can digitally transform into over 140 Hot Wheels vehicles as it races across a user-created track.Priced at $129.99 and available to pre-order now, the standard edition of Hot Wheels: Rift Rally includes an RC car, four “high-tech mixed reality gates” to build tracks with, and a charging cable.A $149.99 Collector’s Edition also comes with a special edition RC car, a limited edition die-cast McLaren Hot Wheels car, and a McLaren Senna unlockable car.Campaign mode sees players creating their own tracks and exploring “different challenge maps where there are multiple challenges to complete and races to race”, while Stunt mode challenges players to “chain together drifts, wheelies, and burnouts to hit high scores and earn rewards”.“Our mission at Velan has always been to create breakthrough games that feel magical to players,” said company CEO Karthik Bala. “Our background combining digital and physical play taught us a lot about the mixed reality racing genre we invented, which we used to bring a transformational new experience to Hot Wheels: Rift Rally.”Velan recently announced plans to close its live service action game Knockout City in June.The dodgeball game was released in May 2021 under the EA Originals publishing label before Velan took over publishing duties and made it free-to-play last year.
