Nintendo has revealed new DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, confirming 48 remastered classic tracks from across the franchise during the February Nintendo Direct. Previous leaks had suggested that Mario Kart 9 was in development, specifically citing the February Direct as the point it would be revealed, but the new Nintendo showcase has seemingly put the rumors to bed.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe consistently tops the Nintendo best-sellers charts, despite not being an entirely new Nintendo Switch game. The 2017 title is a more complete version of Mario Kart 8, originally released for Nintendo Wii U in 2014. The game has been one of the company's most lucrative titles, bringing in new players and sales that have cemented it as one of the console's must-have games in the years since its release. Fans have been hoping for a sequel, a potential Mario Kart 9, for many years now, but it seems that Nintendo isn't yet ready to launch an entirely new title in the longstanding franchise.
