Five years after releasing For Honor, Ubisoft has finally announced plans to unleash cross-platform play across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Crossplay functionality for the online melee action title has been a long time coming, especially since many were hoping such a feature would arrive soon after For Honor's new-gen upgrades for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S arrived.
The new-gen boosts were accessible to players following the release of the consoles themselves. Notably, the upgrades improved water reflections and shadow resolutions, enhanced texture filtering, and added 4K visuals for on PS5 and Xbox Series X. (Xbox Series S runs the action title at a resolution of 1080p.) The start of Year 4 Season 4, which went live in December 2020, also unlocked 60fps gameplay capabilities on the newer consoles. Of course, For Honor faithful specifically expressed an interest in hearing about Ubisoft's plans for crossplay support, so many will be pleased to learn the way for such information has finally come to an end.

In a recent development update outlining Year 6: Lost Horizons, Ubisoft developers (via Eurogamer) shared the first details about For Honor's long-awaited crossplay feature. The functionality will launch in two different phases, the first of which goes live for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms on Thursday, March 17. In phase one, users can expect the three player pools to become unified for matchmaking, meaning the wait to hop into a game should be significantly reduced. Phase two lacks a firm due date but will allow players to enjoy games with friends regardless of their platform of choice.
