The most recent episode of Legacies brought back a makeshift version of one of The Originals' most gruesome weapons and somehow made it even worse. The world of The Vampire Diaries is full of weapons and powerful artifacts of all kinds. With most of the characters being supernatural weapons themselves, any number of objects and gadgets have been created to be used against them. While some are as simple as a stake to the heart, others are far more torturous. And when magical artifacts or ancient weapons fail, new weapons are improvised.
That's exactly what Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) did in Legacies season 4, episode 12, «Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost.» With The Originals' Aurora (Rebecca Breeds) tied up and at Hope's mercy, Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) intervenes and gets the information they need out of Aurora by deceiving her rather than resorting to torture. Yet Hope decides to torture Aurora, anyway, with a strange contraption that looks like she rigged it out of screws and the smoke detector. The gruesome weapon burrows itself inside Aurora's chest in a spray of blood, causing excruciating pain. It's a frankly horrific scene.

Those who have watched the previous shows, however, will recognize Hope's terrible weapon in Legacies as a crude, makeshift version of one of The Originals' most gruesome weapons: Papa Tunde's blade. Papa Tunde and his blade were introduced in The Originals season 1. Papa Tunde was a powerful witch who turned his bone blade dagger into a dark object powerful enough to even stop an Original Vampire and their bloodlust. The way it did so was gruesome:
