New So You Think You Can Dance judge Leah Remini explained how she prepares for her first episode on the judging panel. The Emmy-winning actress and TV personality was a last-minute addition to SYTYCD, as she replaced former judge and star of stage and screen Matthew Morrison. Matthew was fired from SYTYCD for reportedly sending a female contestant «flirty messages» through social media, which made her uncomfortable. While Matthew denied any wrongdoing, FOX launched an investigation and fired him from the show. Leah sits at the judges' table alongside former SYTYCD contestant Stephen «tWitch» Boss and pop star JoJo Siwa.
Leah joined the show's landmark 300th episode, in which they revealed the Top 12 for SYTYCD season 17. During the hour-long episode, the contestants that made it through were paired up and performed showstopping dance routines, and Leah was giving feedback right next to tWitch and JoJo after every number. Matthew still appeared in pre-taped segments delivering the news to the dancers, but that was his last appearance on the show. Leah will be on the judging panel for the remaining eight weeks of the competition.

In an interview for Inside Dance, Leah revealed how she prepared to become a judge midway through the season. She said she gave herself a «crash course» on the season so far, watching all of the audition and choreography episodes and studying the contestants that made it to the Top 12. Leah also expressed gratitude to tWitch, JoJo and the entire crew at SYTYCD for «bringing me into the fold.» Leah said that she is already «so invested» in the dancers and that it's going to be "hard to let anyone go," as
