Microsoft has released the September 2022 system update(Opens in a new window) for the Xbox Series X and Series S, and with it offered relief for those tired of hearing heavy breathers over voice chat.
As Eurogamer reports(Opens in a new window), as part of the update Microsoft is introducing a new party chat noise suppression feature. It's capable of automatically removing unwanted sounds while you're chatting and playing games with friends online. Those sounds include "gamepad clicks, breathing, and background noise from your parties." The suppression feature is optional and can be toggled on or off by opening the guide and navigating to Parties & chats > Options.
The other new feature this update includes is the ability for friends who are watching game clips or viewing screenshots of a game to start playing that game immediately. This can be achieved either by using a mobile device or a PC through the use of cloud gaming. The one caveat of this new feature is the fact some games will require an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription in order for it to work.
To install this system update, press the Xbox button on your controller, then open the guide and select Profile & system> Settings > System > Updates. You may find the system update has already been installed, but if not, then it will be available to install from that screen.
