Dataminers have found evidence that suggests The Last of Us Part II's dancing sequence was once playable. Sony and Naughty Dog first showcased TLoU Part 2's dancing scene during E3 2018, the same event where official gameplay hit the web for the first time. Because this particular sequence played such a big role in the sequel's marketing, many assumed Ellie's and Dina's dance took place early in the game. Instead of appearing in the opening hours, though, the segment in question doesn't actually show up until the back half of the narrative.
Naughty Dog developers have candidly spoken about what content landed on the cutting room floor during production. For example, the original concept featured a character named Esther, who would've played the role of Joel's girlfriend. Another version of TLoU 2's main story involved Abby infiltrating the group in Jackson and gaining everyone's trust over a period of time. And in the past, series Co-Creator Neil Druckmann has detailed a playable boar hunting section wherein Ellie must grapple with her penchant for violence while living on the farm.

A new TLoU 2 cut content-related video from YouTuber Speclizer opens with a Relater discussion between Troy Baker and Neil Druckmann about the aforementioned boar scene. Interestingly, The Last of Us YouTuber Angel-gbc discovered an "unused boar hunt Ellie model," which viewers can see edited into the conversation between Ellie and Jesse at the dance. Speclizer also shared a prototype version of the Jackson area, complete with evidence of the playable dance segment. Check out the full video below:
