Apple TV+'s Slow Horses, based on Mick Herron's award-winning spy novels, premiered the first two episodes of its six-part season this week and kicked off an intense mystery. The story follows a cynical MI5 agent named Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman, Mank)and the down-and-out team he oversees at Slough House. Sent to his department as punishment for errors on the job and other unfortunate circumstances, each of the agents under his care must cope with menial tasks and a depressing lack of real cases.
On the other side of the spectrum is Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas, Rebecca), the calm and collected second-in-command who somehow seems unnerved by Lamb from time to time. She keeps tabs on him and his new recruit River Cartwright (Jack Lowden, Kindred) while also trying to ensure the security agency is not held liable during a high-profile hostage situation. Over the course of the season's six episodes, written by Veep's Will Smith and directed by Snowpiercer's James Hawes, she must learn to work alongside Slough House for the greater good.
