Socialite, reality TV star … tech tycoon? Kim Kardashian teamed up with Apple's Beats brand to launch Fit Pro earbuds in three neutral colors.
The Beats x Kim collection(Opens in a new window)—featuring skin-toned pigments dubbed Moon, Dune, and Earth—hits Amazon and Apple(Opens in a new window) on Aug. 16 with a $199.99 price tag.
"Since you're wearing something every day, I wanted them to be able to blend in," Kardashian said in a promotional video. "And I've never seen any tech products, especially headphones, be in neutral colors."
Kardashian enlisted an artist to paint the earbuds to her preferred shade. She then brought her idea to Beats, which "understood the vision right away," she said.
Aside from new shades of brown, the Beats x Kim earphones are no different from the standard Beats Fit Pro, with their active noise cancellation (ANC), Apple H1 chip, hands-free Siri, easy iOS pairing, and pliable ear fins for, as their name suggests, a secure fit.
Touch controls let you manage playback, calls, ANC, and volume for an estimated six to seven hours, plus an additional 21 to 23 hours in the color-matched charging case. (Results vary based on usage and volume levels.) An IPX4 rating means the earpieces can handle sweat, light rain, or splashes, but should not be submerged or placed under a faucet.
Part of a special edition collection, the new minimalist colors are available starting next week "while supplies last," a Beats spokesperson told CNET(Opens in a new window).
"I think I would just want people to understand that this is also a fashion accessory that's reusable and user-friendly and it doesn't have to be anything loud, it can blend in with what you're wearing," Kardashian said. "It's kind of a statement."
