The U.K.'s Crown Prosecution Service has charged actor Kevin Spacey with four counts of sexual assault. The actor has had a long Hollywood career in film and television that earned him two acting Oscars, one for Best Supporting Actor in The Usual Suspects in 1996 and one for Best Actor in American Beauty in 1999, a film that also won Best Picture that year. Spacey's career has spanned a variety of genres including drama, comedy (with Horrible Bosses and its sequel), and action (with Baby Driver). The actor was also the lead in Netflix's first major original series, playing conniving presidential hopeful Frank Underwood in the political drama House of Cards.
His career came to a halt in 2017 when he was accused of sexual assault by Anthony Rapp, who said that Spacey, who is 12 years older than him, made an advance toward Rapp when he was 14 years old. Rapp filed a suit against Spacey for sexual abuse along with a still-unnamed co-claimant, who has since dropped out of the suit. Following the allegations, many more arose from different corners, including 20 separate victims in the U.K., where Spacey had been the artistic director of the Old Vic theater between 2004 and 2015.
