Jason Mewes reveals that Kevin Smith kept him out of Jersey Girl because of an active arrest warrant. Smith is largely known as the filmmaker responsible for cult hits like 1994's Clerks and 1995's Mallrats, but he has since directed a number of other movies, including Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Cop Out, Zack and Miri Make A Porno, and Red State. Now, more than 15 years removed from the last Clerks outing in 2006, Smith and Mewes are set to reunite in Clerks III, which is expected to be released at some point this year.
Although frequent collaborators and longtime best friends, Smith has undertaken a number of projects without Mewes' involvement. One such project was 2004's Jersey Girl, a movie starring Ben Affleck as a widower struggling to look after his young daughter while attempting to rebuild his life. In addition to Affleck, the film also stars Liv Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Stephen Root. Although not the stars they are today, Affleck, Tyler, and Lopez were still big names back in 2004, but despite their star power, Jersey Girl underperformed at the box office and earned mostly negative reviews from critics.
