Lokidirector Kate Herron has recently teased Kang the Conqueror's future within the MCU. Debuting in 2021, the third MCU Phase Four series followed the events of Avengers: Endgame after the titular character escaped New York using the Tesseract. He was quickly captured by the Time Variance Authority as an unauthorized variant and was forced to work with the secretive organization to track down one of his own variants who is wreaking havoc on the timeline and killing TVA agents. However, upon meeting the variant Slyvie (Sophia Di Martino), Loki elects to help her track down the Time-Keepers behind the TVA and save their lives.
The series proved popular with both critics and audiences alike with the actor's performances singled out as exemplary. One such actor praised was Jonathan Majors who briefly portrayed the mysterious man behind the curtain, He Who Remains, in the Loki season finale. Majors' slightly giddy performance contrasted the gravity of the scene where he explained to the heroes that he created the TVA in an effort to save the universe from another devastating multiversal war that his variants started. By pruning the timelines, they avoid the possibility of a catastrophic disaster across space and time. However, Sylvie kills the time lord setting the MCU down a collision course with one of He Who Remains' most powerful variants, Kang the Conqueror.
