Josh Brolin reveals his and Javier Bardem's hilarious Dune: Part Two workout prep after talking with director Denis Villeneuve before the Oscars. Brolin starred in Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's sci-fi epic novel as Gurney Halleck, the weapons master of House Atreides who serves as one of Paul's mentors in getting him ready to rise through the ranks of his family's royalty and for the dangers of the desert planet of Arrakis. Bardem starred in Dune as Stilgar, the leader of Arrakis' native people the Fremen who initially forges an alliance with the Atreides after they take charge of the planet and eventually take in Paul and Lady Jessica after the House Harkonnen's attack on the family.
Alongside Brolin and Bardem, the cast for Villeneuve's Dune included Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Jason Momoa and Charlotte Rampling. Co-written by Villeneuve with Doctor Strange's Jon Spaihts and A Star is Born's Eric Roth, the film was a mammoth success upon its late 2021 release, receiving largely positive reviews from critics for its ambitious and faithful approach to the source material, Villeneuve's direction and Hans Zimmer's musical score and grossing over $400 million against its $165 million budget. The film's success helped secure a greenlight for Dune: Part Two from Warner Bros. and one star is already gearing up to get to work on the film.
