Jonathan Majors is set to star in the upcoming supernatural revenge thriller Merciless, marking the first time the actor will appear in a film following his conviction for third-degree assault and harassment.
According to a report from Deadline, Majors will star in the film from director Martin Villeneuve, the younger brother of acclaimed filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. Frank Hannah will write the original screenplay, which sees Majors portray a CIA interrogator, who, “after the woman he loves is overtaken by a malevolent force, is forced to go even darker to defeat it.”
“Merciless intertwines themes of possession, revenge and personal justice within a haunting narrative. It explores the psychological descent of John, played by Majors, and the supernatural forces challenging his sanity,” Villeneuve says.
Late last year, Majors was convicted of three counts of third-degree assault, and second-degree harassment. These stem from an incident in 2023, in which Majors allegedly struck then-girlfriend Grace Jabbari “ about the face with an open hand, causing substantial pain and a laceration behind her ear.” Additionally, he allegedly grabbed her hand and neck, “causing bruising and substantial pain.”
A previous report from ABC News notes that Majors made the 911 call himself, which police responded to. The call was “purportedly over concerns about his girlfriend, whom he lives with in a penthouse apartment in the Chelsea neighborhood.” After police arrived, the girlfriend told officers they were in a taxi together after returning from a bar and that Majors physically attacked her. Majors was then arrested after police noticed marks on the woman.
