Joker 2 In The Works, Official Title Revealed

It has been confirmed that a sequel to Joker is currently in the works, with actor Joaquin Phoenix and director Todd Phillips both set to return. Both men were involved in the making of the original film, as was co-writer Scott Silver who will also return for the sequel.

Shared by IGN, we also got an official title. Revealed by director Todd Phillips on his official Instagram account, the Joker's sequel finally has a complete script and will be titled Joker: Folie á Deux. While that's all the official info we've got at the moment, the title of the film is named after an actual psychological disorder where two or more people who are closely associated are affected by the same delusion. Not much to go on for a potential plot, but it does suggest that another person may be joining the Joker as the main focus of the film.

We've known about a potential sequel to the Joker for some time now, as a report earlier in the year suggested a first draft of the script had been completed. That same report claimed that filming for the project would start in 2023, which now seems pretty likely since Todd Phillips has just shared a completed script. We don't know when the film will release, but best guesses are probably at some point in 2024, maybe 2025.

However, what we do know is that it's pretty unlikely the Caped Crusader will make an appearance. While the franchise has a popular new Batman in Robert Pattinson, some deleted scenes from The Batman show off Barry Keoghan's portrayal of the Joker as well as a potential method of his escape, possibily setting up his appearance in the already confirmed sequel.
