The titles and synopses for John Carter sequel movies that would have been (had the original not flopped at the box office) have been revealed. John Carter was released in 2012, and focused on the titular Civil War vet who is accidentally transported to the planet of Barsoom (i.e. Mars), where he soon is imprisoned by one of the 12ft-tall aliens who inhabit the planet. When he escapes, he discovers a princess in need of a savior, and embarks on a sci-fi action adventure. John Carter stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton, Bryan Cranston, and Thomas Haden Church. It was directed by acclaimed Pixar writer-director Andrew Stanton (A Bug’s Life, Finding Nemo, WALL-E, Finding Dory).
Stanton's film could have been an epic sci-fi adventure that was the start of a new franchise. Instead, John Carter was a major box-office flop, and later became infamous as one of Disney’s biggest failures ever. Stanton had been planning aJohn Carter 2 and even a John Carter 3, continuing to adapt the series of source novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs, but after the abysmal financial performance, those sequels were cancelled.

Now, Stanton reveals the titles and synopses of the John Carter sequels he would have made. According to Collider, John Carter 2 would have been titled Gods of Mars, while John Carter 3 would have been Warlord of Mars. Stanton describes the plot of Gods of Mars in more detail:
