Over the past few days, new images of space captured by the James Webb telescope have surfaced online. It is designed to capture images and light 100 times fainter than that captured by the Hubble telescope, resulting in more beautiful images that, scientists say, are full of important data. It’ll be interesting to see how this impacts astronomy, but the images have come up in another community: Skyrim.
Skyrim is easily one of the most recognizable games of all time, with even those outside the community likely hearing of it and knowing of it, if nothing else. It’s easy to see Skyrim in just about anything, whether that’s game design or whatnot, but at least one image captured by the James Webb telescope seems like it is taken right out of the game.

As shared by many online, perhaps one of the most beautiful images is that of the Carina Nebula. It is about 8500 light-years from earth and is part of the Carina-Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way galaxy. Upon looking at this image, it’s easy to relate it to Skyrim’s level-up menu. As many fans know, leveling up in Skyrim takes them to a menu of constellations, all using various colors and whatnot.
It should be noted that the constellations in Skyrim often form things like an anvil or magic symbols, so it’s not an exact 1:1 for comparison. But the colors and design of this Skyrim level-up menu looks undeniably like the shot of the Carina Nebula. It should be noted that this menu, in the past, has been compared to the Hubble telescope images, so this isn’t entirely surprising.
It’s not known whether or not Bethesda intentionally used the Hubble telescope images as inspiration for this level-up menu, but either way, the Hubble
