Jada Pinkett Smith addresses the Oscars slap in the return of her talk show, Red Table Talk. During the 94th Academy Awards last month, possibly the most infamous event in Oscars history occurred when Will Smith took to the stage and slapped comedian Chris Rock while he was presenting the award for Best Documentary Feature. Smith's violent outburst was in response to a G.I. Jane joke Rock made about about his wife Pinkett Smith's shaved head, likening her appearance to Demi Moore in the 1997 film.
Despite some initial confusion about the slap, the nature of the situation imminently became clear as Smith returned to his seat and shouted obscenities directed towards Rock. Later in the ceremony, Smith won the Best Actor award for his role in King Richard and during his acceptance speech, he apologized to the Academy for his actions. After a few days reflection, Smith issued a more formal apology to Rock and soon resigned from the Academy, who later took action and banned Smith from the Oscars for the next 10 years.
