Italian voice actor Pietro Ubaldi originally voiced the Goron Champion Daruk in Breath of the Wild. Daruk features as one of Hyrule's old champions, who failed to stop Calamity Ganon 100 years before the events of Breath of the Wild take place. Like the other fallen heroes Revali, Mipha, and Urbosa, Daruk can guide Link on his quest to restore all the Divine Beasts to their former glory and save Hyrule.

However, alongside voicing Daruk, Ubaldi has stated that he will also voice Daruk's ancestor. Daruk ends Breath of the Wild in the afterlife, though beforehand he is able to speak with Link in certain moments, meaning an ancestor of Daruk could play a similar role. It is currently unknown how Daruk's ancestor will appear in Breath of the Wild 2, but it is assumed that the character will not appear physically, unless the game were to have Link travel back in time.
